Employees win the right to keep their camera off… or do they?

That’s the headline you’ve probably seen everywhere.

But the reality of the Tait v Holiday Extras Ltd tribunal case is very different from the social media commentary and clickbait headlines suggest.

The “camera off” issue was one paragraph in a 127-paragraph judgement. It wasn’t the central reason the employer lost.

The real lessons are hidden in what happened behind the headline:

  • The employee had five potential disabilities
  • There were nine alleged failures to make reasonable adjustments
  • Issues around sickness absence, workplace support, and a grievance process
  • Multiple points where the employer’s approach increased legal risk

In this first session of our new “What Can We Learn From Tribunal?” Masterclass Series, Elissa Thursfield will take apart the judgement, look beyond the headlines, and explain what employers actually need to learn from this case.

We’ll explore:

✅ What the tribunal actually considered when reaching its decision
✅ Where the employer’s processes fell short
✅ The mistakes that created legal exposure
✅ How reasonable adjustments should have been approached
✅ The practical steps managers and HR teams can take to avoid similar situations

Join us for a practical breakdown of a real tribunal decision and discover what tribunals are actually looking for when workplace disputes reach court.

Book an intro call to find out more about our unified product offering which also includes £250k of tribunal cover.
